To Boldly Go

Like many people, I'm totally in love with the new Star Trek reboot. I've seen it twice already and will undoubtedly go back for more before it leaves the cinema. The reason I'm writing about this is that seeing such a terrific sci-fi movie (with such delicious moments between Kirk and Spock, the original slash pairing) has inspired me to start thinking about writing my own sci-fi story.

I've always written contemporary novels (although I enjoy historicals very much) because there's a comfort in writing what you know. However, the idea of making up a universe that's entirely my own is very enticing. The possibilities are endless, although I'm sure there are some plots that should be avoided since they've already been done before. I'd like to read some sci-fi so I can get an idea of what's out there. So if you have any m/m sci-fi romance recs, please share!

I really enjoyed Hot Cargo by Nicki Bennet and Ariel Tachna. Its from Dreamspinner Press. Oh yeah, its hot alright. *fans self*

There is also Pandora Project: Runaway Star by Anah Crow and Dianne Fox from Torquere. I'll be honest, I had personal issues with the theme here and it didn't work for me, but had NOTHING to do with the quality of the writing or the book as a whole which I bought on the recommendation of someone. Personal bugaboo (not space related) I just couldn't get past.

I'm not a huge sci-fi fan so that's about the only one I can think of. Good luck. I really enjoyed Star Trek too. I love sci-fi movie and tv shows, just not books so much for some reason.

JL Langley is good; she has two The Englor Affair and My Fair Captain.

Evangeline Anderson has a fab space opera novella out, I think it's Pushing Boundaries? Something like that. Also second the J.L. Langley recs.

I am a huge fan of anything sci-fi! So it's very hard to choose what to recommend.
However, "Undercover" by Lauren Dane is one I'll read over and over, so there ya' go.

Good luck, and will be watching for your "something new" !
