I was talking to a friend the other day about dramatic devices typically used in romances. After listing plot scenarios that we've seen many different variations on over the years, I decided my absolute favourite is when one half of a couple thinks that the other is dead -- but they actually aren't. So you get the grief and angst and tears and heartache, but then the happy ending, too. It's the best of both worlds!
So the question is: What's your favourite romance plot device that pushes your buttons every time?

Not the one listed because it's too much like a bad soap opera. Probably more about miscommunication and the such. I think K.A. Mitchell's Regularly Scheduled Life is a prime example of great writing with the angst and the happy ending.
I guess I'm a fan of bad soap operas, then! To each their own. :)
I do enjoy miscommunication and misunderstandings, etc. K.A.'s book is a great one for angst.
Angst and a little betrayal sometimes - I too love Regularly Scheduled Life, just came to this blog from K.A. Mitchell's website, hoping to find new material from her.
