Seasons change, but beauty remains

With autumn around the corner, I find myself pondering the change of seasons and the passage of time. Before you think I'm getting all deep and meaningful, my thoughts are centered around men -- specifically, hot men. Some look best in their baby-faced younger years. Others hit their prime around middle age. And of course, we have silver foxes as testament to the beauty of winter.

I suppose that's one reason I like writing May/December relationships between two sexy men. Whether it's 11 years difference between Derek and Blue of Blue Ruin, or 24 years between Tony and Josh in my upcoming novel Sonoran Heat, my readers and I get to enjoy both ends of the spectrum with all varieties in between!

A few rare men manage to look good at any given age. In some cases, they only get better with a dash of seasoning. In my opinion, Johnny Depp, Robert Downey Jr, Viggo Mortensen, David Bowie, Mark Harmon, and Sean Connery are shining examples of men who've aged like fine wine.

A picture is worth a thousand words, so here's a 2,000 word post dedicated to Leonardo DiCaprio, who transitioned from pretty twink to hot man without batting an eye. He was beautiful then:

He's gorgeous now:

Leo, baby, your Japanese fans don't call you Leo-sama for nothing. So, anyone I should add to my running list of men who just get better with time? Please add your own in comments!

Justin Timberlake comes to mind. As does George Clooney. {Sigh}

Good choices! Justin has particularly earned my respect in recent years with his sexy songs and comedic appearances on SNL and such.

As for Clooney, that man has not even aged. I wonder what his secret is? Can we bottle it? LOL

I'll second, third, and fourth the Viggo Mortensen comment. A couple of others, albeit quite a bit older now, are Ian McKellan and Christopher Lee.

Thanks for stopping by! My mother would fifth, sixth, and seventh your Viggo sentiments. She absolutely adores him, and she's one of the pickiest people I know as far as who she finds attractive!

McKellan and Lee have such commanding stage/screen presence. As does Patrick Stewart, who I meant to include in my list above!

Viggo....*nods head and sighs dreamily*

I would add Denzel Washington and the late Patrick Swayze...he was more amazing to me at 50 than he was in his late 20's

George Clooney and Leonardo DiCaprio, for sure.

Elaine ~ Mmm yes very good choices. I am still very saddened by Patrick Swayze's passing. True story -- one of my former OB/GYN's had a poster of Patrick Swayze tacked to the ceiling. Made those appointments a little less unpleasant. LOL

Val ~ Yay, another Leo fan! Have you seen Total Eclipse! Not only an interesting tale of an affair between two male poets, but there are scenes where then-21 year old Leo is so pretty, it just makes my old woman self want to cry.

Oh, yes, Patrick Stewart. I knew there was someone I was forgetting. "Make it so." Every time I hear those words, I get shivers.

Katrina, I can't believe you left off Gary Oldman! He tops my list!

How about Sean Bean, David Thewlis and Jason Isaacs?

And then there's the man who, even in his 80's, more than had it going on - Mr. Cary Grant!

Jules ~ Excellent choices, all! Hotness aside, Gary Oldman is just a consummate actor, period.

(Oh and Thewlis plays opposite Leo in Total Eclipse, which I mentioned to Val above. *sigh*)

I must be the only person who doesn't find Leo all that attractive, then or now.

Johnny Depp and Brad Pitt still works for me (when he shaves - the scraggly beard not so much).

Thanks for stopping by! Funny thing about me with Leo is... I used to think he was cute but that was it. Then around The Aviator, when he started to fill out and show some maturity, I thought whoa now, when did he get HOT? Now that I'm, you know, old-er and going through my twink phase, I rewatch his older movies and realize how pretty he was back then. So my appreciation of Leo is a retrospective thing.

As for Johnny, he was one of the inspirations behind my 45-year-old hottie Tony in Sonoran Heat. And as for Mr. Pitt, I think he signed a deal with the devil... or maybe he just knows how to moisturize?
