Submission: Not Gender Exclusive

So bear with me folks, I'm gonna try and sound intelligent about this. Today, I was looking for pics to inspire a post. I admit it, I'm never truly prepared. My mind is usually stuffed with all kinds of other things and a lot of the time, I am a total space cadet. So as I was wondering Google Images, changing the search word as ideas came and went, I hit onto a comfortable topic.

BDSM is rapidly becoming a topic that, while I am not an expert and never will be, I am able to say I've formed opinions on. Slight background: I identify as a Dom (as an FYI, yes I am aware that it is Domme for female dominants. But it's my personal preference to say Dom) with some switch tendencies. So, it's something I feel I can talk about without sounding like a total dweeb.

Anyway somewhat long-winded beginning done, I discovered that there is an alarming lack of male submissive art. This isn't a new fact, no doubt. And hey, I might even be behind in talking about it. After all, there's already a website devote to it (in which I found my lovely pic): http://www.malesubmissionart.com/.

But the reason it caught my attention today was because of the absolutely ridiculous amount of female submission images. I tried to think of other images that relate directly to BDSM but you know what? If you Google anything on BDSM, it is likely that you will get an image result (or a thousand) of a bound and gagged woman. In fact, until I actually became actively interested in BDSM and met gay or male-identified practictioners, the first thing to pop in my head in relation to it was a bound woman. And the pre-requisite whips and chains and leather, yada.

Since then I've learned and written otherwise. Still, looking at those images, I'm not angry so much as I'm annoyed. There is a perceptinon about submissives that is already difficult to climb over, which is the idea that submissivs are weak or beholden to their Dom/me/Master/Mistress. But looking at the pictures on Google, I'm also baffled to see the idea that subs have to be feminine, if not female entirely.

Thinking on the stories I've read, the trend of subs tend to be slender, slim-hipped, short...or in any case, just weaker than the Dom in general. No, this doesn't mean that female subs are weaker in any way, shape or form. But let's also accept that the female gender is physically weaker than the male gender and therefore, the image of a feminine/girlish figure as a sub is a perfect visual stereotype for a submissive.

That doesn't mean it's right. A man, even the most masculine and butch male, can make a wonderful sub, visually and so on. This is another obstacle of m/m BDSM that needs to die as rapidly as the mind-reading, asshole Dom needs to. Subs come in every shape and size, male, female, genderqueer, and I think it's something those of us who write BDSM need to seriously work on bringing to the forefront.

I hope this made sense! So what do y'all think?

Trufax

I'd like to tell y'all that I've been busy. That in between working, I've been burning up the keyboard. I'd like to tell y'all that I've been popping idea after idea and have a To Write folder (I should make one of those).

In honesty, I've been doing this (I WISH):

Besides ogling Jensen Ackles, I'm slowly pulling out some progress on three of my current WIPs. Hunting through sub calls for that "ooh!" spark. Talking James B. into taking me bar-hopping on my 21st b-day (I heart that man SO much). Getting my life back together now that the Family Drama is over with.

So really, I'm just living. I hope to have something finished soon but hey, I'm not under any pressure. Especially because I quit NaNo. Freedom!

Now, nose back to grindstone. *starts video again*

Odds and Ends

So, unsurprisingly, I flaked on JulNoWrimo. I was sooo stoked too. But there ya go. Once again, I'm forced to accept that my prolific-ness (if that is even a word), is going to suffer until I'm done with school.

Bleh, it's high school over again. Everyone all together now: SHUDDER!

Anyway, that doesn't mean I'm not plotting. I'm just sort of a rabbit, hopping from plot to plot, WIP to WIP...Sigh. Ah, enough of the morbidity. I have to make this short because I was reading one of my On Hold WIPs and it's snared me. Yeah, I know, what the hell is this, Z? We want something to read!

Well all right, you bossy things :) I suppose I can tell you that I had a story accepted a little while back. Gracious me, I hope I didn't tell ya'll that last time. I'm a terrible space cadet of a person sometimes. Really. I'm in orbit, somewhere around Uranus.

Oh laugh. You know you want to.

Anyway, the story is called Pain Management which I wrote with my lovely co-partner, Cassidy Ryan and while I don't have an date or a cover, yada yada, I'm excited. It's with Red Rose Publishing and trust me when I say that I'm done collecting publishers for a while.

I hope.

Because boy, would I really like to pub something to Samhain or Liquid Silver or OOH, MLR...okay, no, I'm stopping. I have an addiction to new publishers, I admit it. There's a thrill, a sick, sick thrill, that hits me whenever I get accepted into a new place.

I swear, when I'm done with school, I'm going to work on building backlists. I swear ya'll. And maybe a Yahoo group. I had one but then I kinda...predictably spaced. Or got swamped in writing. Probably Options A and B. Okay, ramble over! Gotta go and mess with that WIP while its still in my head.

Or yanno...re-read K.A. Mitchell's Collison Course again. Whichever comes first. *dimpled smile* Bye ya'll!

Which Pretty Much Means I'm Back To Square One

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

(I'm pretty sure this isn't really how my brain looks right now....pretty sure. *looks worried*)

So about a day or two ago, my writing partner and I finished what is - to date - our longest story. We're pretty stoked, considering we did it within a week. Which also means that I am...brain fried. Sigh. That sucks mostly because I can't not be trying to write something.

I need to take a break so I can recover and go at it again. Unforunately, I really suck with breaks. I mean...I can't do it. I'll lounge around and read some, sure but right afterward, I've got the tickle of an idea.

Sigh. Ah, well. It's a process. At least that's what I'm telling myself. The good thing is, that story is all clean and subbed. Woot! Now if I can just stop collecting publishers to sub to, I might be able to get something else done. Snort. If it ain't one thing, it's something else.

I'm off to slap around some words and see if they make something interesting.

Granted, if I could get off Twitter too, I'd probably get a shitload more done. But in the theory of things that are probable....that is not. *grin* I'm telling myself its research - learning more about people and the quirks that make them so infallibly human.

Yeah, I know. I don't believe me that much either. Ta!

Computers, deadlines, and sexy as sin actors.

What a subject, eh?

Still recovering from having to reformat my hard drive and reinstall Windows yesterday. Lost all my bookmarks (though I saved some research links in a file several days ago). Sucks, damn it.

But there are some good things in life...

Like not having any looming (contracted) deadlines! Now, there are a couple deadlines I'd like to meet, but they aren't contracted.

And...Sweeney Todd. Johnny Depp as Sweeney Todd, to be exact. Have y'all seen the previews??? GUH.
