I hope everyone has had a wonderful time this Pride Month! Festivities here were extensive. Even the crosswalks got into the celebration.

There's still work to do and battles to fight, but for now we celebrate, we dance, we cheer. Love is love! Love wins! Happy Pride, everyone!

Parades and Pride

Around here, June is made for parades! (Ignore those clouds, that rain, the encroaching marine layer...) From naked cyclists at the Solstice Parade to every color of the rainbow at Pride, it's a month to be outside celebrating! It's gonna be a big Pride Fest here, this year, too, methinks. What with us legalizing marriage equality and all that last November. Definitely a reason to celebrate extra hard! I admit that I'm kind of a wuss when it comes to big crowds, though, so I tend to live vicariously through my friends who go to the events and then post pics on Facebook. I'm a little lame that way.

New interview + Pride

My recent interview with Top 2 Bottom Reviews went live yesterday. You can read it here. Watch me trying to be thoughtful and tactful without coming across as a complete dork. I'll leave it to you to decide whether or not I was successful.

I hope everyone enjoyed Pride Month and its festivities! Pride was a little more political than usual here this month. We're still fighting for marriage equality, you see. Our governor signed it into law, but a small group of haters have forced us to vote on it this November. So this year's Pride events were focused on getting out the word: Yes on Referendum 74! Voting yes will approve the law that legalizes same-sex marriage in the state. Here's hoping we, as voters, will do the right thing *again* and finally shut the haters up for good.

On a cheerier and less political note, there are so many great images from our local Pride Parade that I can't pick a favorite. The little kid with the balloon underneath the enormous rainbow flag? The Episcopal minister smiling and blessing the crowd? The mostly naked Batman with rainbow sleeves and thigh-highs? The rainbow Stormtrooper? The naked cyclists who apparently couldn't get enough of cycling in naked the previous weekend at the Solstice Parade? I just can't decide! Pride in the Park

Yesterday was the annual Pride in the Park festival, which is held n Elmwood Park here in Roanoke, Virginia. I shared a booth with JM Snyder, Vincent Diamond, Beth Wylde, and Marguerite Labbe. It was a beautiful day with a clear blue sky and weather in the low-to-mid nineties. A ton of people came out for the celebration and a good time was had by all.

I met a bunch of very sweet people, sold some books, and handed out a ton of promo. Actually, I ran completely out of goody bags by noon. I'm going to have to make some more before Durham Pride this upcoming weekend or I won't have anything to hand out to anyone else. :D
