Print releases

At long last (and I admit to my share of the delay in this), False Dawn is now available for purchase in PAPERBACK! I can't tell you how wonderful it is to hold the real book in my hands. ::sigh::

Relevant linkage:
False Dawn from CreateSpace
False Dawn from Amazon.com

It's the exact same book, whichever link you follow, so order from wherever you want.

On the way next to print is Compass Hearts followed by Client Privileges. And then... and then... something new, mayhaps? We shall see...

False Dawn Re-release

Good news! I re-released my space opera novella False Dawn this past weekend! I'm quite proud of the cover I put together. I loved the original one so much that I did my best to honour the original image. I hope you like it!

Here's an excerpt, too, and it's not the one I usually use for this book. It's a bit steamier than that. ;-)

***
"Hi!" Galen barely got the greeting out before Dayan was through the doorway and on him.

Dayan grasped him by his broad shoulders and pulled him into a searing kiss. Startled but willing, Galen opened his mouth to Dayan's searching tongue, and Dayan took full advantage. He swept his tongue along Galen's teeth and tickled the roof of Galen’s mouth, reveling in the taste and feeling, the warmth and the wetness.

When at last they came up for breath, both men were panting. Galen's brown eyes were nearly all pupil, and Dayan was more than ready to fall into them. He'd waited all damned day to show his lover just how proud he was of that promotion.

"Congratulations, Detective," he said, his voice a husky purr of desire.

"I take it you don't want to go out to celebrate." Galen's expression and tone were wry.

Dayan returned the look with a lascivious, one-sided grin. "What do you think?" He pressed his hard, aching cock against Galen's thigh, just below the hip joint, and rolled a little from one side to the other. Galen groaned and leaned in for another devouring kiss. Dayan happily obliged.

Again, they only parted when they had to stop for air. Gasping, Galen smiled broadly. Dayan loved that wide mouth, those straight, white teeth, and dove in for more before either of them properly caught their breath. His head felt light, but whether from lack of oxygen or overload of lust, he didn't know. Didn't care.

Dayan pushed against his lover until they were brought up short by the couch that stood against the outer bulkhead. Dayan released him again and gave him enough of a shove that Galen lost his balance and sat heavily. Without a pause, Dayan straddled him where he sat and began to undo the buttons on his new dress shirt--as much an indication of his new rank as the badge that glinted at Dayan from his belt.

The release of each button was followed by a kiss, a nip, a bite, of Galen's dark, smooth, muscled chest. When Dayan reached the waistband of Galen's tailored black trousers, he tugged the shirt tails up and out, found the last button, and, bent double over his lover's lap, placed a kiss over Galen's navel. He alternately circled it with the tip of his tongue, flicking at the little indentation, and sucked a mouthful of flesh around it. Galen squirmed and shook, just as Dayan knew he would.

Dayan sat up straight, one hand on the clasp of Galen's belt, the other fondling his lover's balls through the taut fabric of his slacks. The outline of his erection was hard pressed just to the left of the fly, but Dayan held off from grasping it. He's been anticipating this all day; he had to take a little revenge and make his lover wait a bit, too.

He leaned in and whispered in Galen's ear. "Is there anything you particularly want tonight?" A gentle squeeze on his sac that made Galen gasp and groan.

"Any...requests?" A tender nibble at the shell of his ear. "Or do you trust me..." Nip. "...to make you..." Nuzzle. "...scream?"

Galen's breath came in short gasps, and Dayan knew he had him. They'd played this game many times, and Galen had never once turned down that particular offer. He looked up into Dayan's gaze and grinned, equal parts defiance and fervor.

"Dare you."

Getting My Scottish On

It was the local Scottish Highland Games this weekend and for the third year in a row, I actually got to go and play with my fellow Scottish-Americans. Needless to say, there were many, many men in kilts. There was a lot of this:
And a whole lot of this:

Sad to say, I did not see any of this:

(I haven't a clue whose image that is, but word up to ya because it is gorgeous!)

And my hubby bought one of these:
(Okay, not that one precisely, but I just dig the hell outta that pic, don't you?)

I'm a traditionalist, you see. I firmly believe that men should be wearing the kilts and women should be wearing the bifurcated garments, i.e. the pants.

And on a side note (because clearly with all the non-bifurcated garments I saw this weekend, my mind's priorities are a little mixed up) my latest novella, False Dawn came out last week. You should totally go check it out over on TQ's website! And you can find the release day author bonus scene I wrote to go with it on my website!

New and newer

I had to sit down at a different computer to write this blog post. It doesn't happen often, but I have a novel in my head that is writing itself. On the one hand, uber-yay! It makes it a lot easier when all I have to do is type what the main character says. I've never had one who's quite this talkative before, either, but then she is 13 and so I guess shouldn't be surprised. That said, though, it means that if I boot up my laptop, I'm there for the duration, taking her dictation and not getting anything else done. Hence the writing this post on a different computer. I know, I know: Shut your whinging, Maia. You could have way worse problems than that. ;-P

In other news, my novella, False Dawn, releases on MONDAY 26 JULY! Whee! I will be partying over the weekend, starting Friday because all weekends should start on Friday, right? Too right! Of course, being on the other computer means I don't have my pretty pretty cover to upload for you, but you remember it, yes? Sun flare over a planet; lots of stars; and a hunky guy. Sure. You remember. Pop over to my blog, Just add coffee, Friday through Monday and comment to win a prize! There will be an excerpt (maybe two, we'll see) and a release day bonus scene and I don't know what else because I tend to host by the seat of my pants, rather like how I write. I hope to see you there!

New, New, New!

I got a new cover. Didja see? Didja, didja?? :D I officially *heart* it! My editor sent it just yesterday. Such an awesome "welcome back from vacation" surprise! Release date is late July. (Am I the only author who can't remember her release dates when she gets them? I probably am. I mean, it's only, like, HUGELY IMPORTANT INFORMATION. But I digress.) So anyway, the book is with the line editor, so we're in the final stages now. I'm so excited about this one. It's sci-fi (obviously), which is a totally fun change from fantasy--despite the fact that every bookstore I've ever seen lumps the two together. Of course, that's probably why I've read so much of both all my life.

Also new is that I finally sent another manuscript in. It's been a while since I submitted anything novel length, and this one's been kicking around since its inception at NaNoWriMo 2007. Yes, I said 2007. Oy. It's m/m + m/m/f, fantasy again, but with magic and mystery, too. Fingers crossed the editor likes it.

But wait, there's more! I've had beta edits on my second GLBT paranormal novel for nearly a month now but, seeing as I was on vacation very far away from reality, I never actually got around to looking at them, never mind going through them all. I started that process yesterday and can I just say that my betas rock? Only one of them has read this one so far but, dude, her comments are so useful! I'm dying to finish my first pass and then start on the serious work of revising. Whee!

You'll understand, I trust

Thing is, it's actually Monday night right now for me, being on the West Coast of N. America, although by blog time it's now Tuesday and therefore officially my blog day. Why does that matter, you ask? Well, because I've had just enough wine to make me ever so slightly daffy, and you should know that's because it's Monday night, not Tuesday morning. Okay? Yes, linear time is weird.

So, I had this fantastic dinner tonight with the hubs and my stage sistah, Ashley. (Seriously. She played my sister a year ago in "Proof".) No, wait! This is relevant to the blog theme, I swear! See, she's this amazing person who's so much fun and so fucking awesome and wonderful that I half-on-purpose/half-accidentally wrote her into my forthcoming novella with Torquere Press, False Dawn. (Fortunately, as she's an actor, I figure it's a role she'd have fun playing. ;) ) I mean, how can my hero, Police Detective Galen Traub on the generational starship Lazna Zora, not have a partner who says shit like "Fuck your face." and "Balls!"? He'd be lost without her as he searched for his missing hubby! She keeps him grounded, gives him the tough love, and is absolutely indispensible to his reality--just as her RL counterpart is indispensible to mine. So, a shout out to all the real people who inspire us as authors so much that we must immortalize them on the page. And especially to Ashley: LOVE YOUR FACE!

New Sale!

I am delighted to announce that I sold a new manuscript to Torquere Press this past week! Unlike my other books, this one is a novella and a space opera. SF being my second literary love (close on the heels of fantasy), I had a great time writing this piece. It's a detective story set on a generational starship. I'll have more news as it comes, but right now all I can tell you is that the title is False Dawn and I believe it'll be out by the end of this year.

In the meantime, more writing, writing, writing on a new fantasy story as I wait to get my edits, edits, edits on False Dawn. No rest for the wicked, right? I must've been particularly wicked lately.

I'm okay with that. ;-)
