M/M Romance & Children

Ever read a gay romance where one or both of the men had children? No? That's cause there aren't that many out there. Sean Michaels wrote one (First Steps) and Bobby Michaels has one (Jock Dorm 2), but other than those two, I can't think of any. If anyone knows of any others, let me know. I'd love to read them.

You have to wonder why there aren't more stories available involving single fathers. Pretty much any kink under the sun can be found in gay romance, but if you want to find something contemporary and sweet, say single father meets Mr. Right, then you have to look elsewhere. That doesn't make much sense to me.

What do you all think? Does domestication kill the illusion of the single gay man, or is there a call for more of these type of stories?

Hey, I've got my eye on Sean Michael's book. Just have to get over to Torquere.

In my wip, one of the heroes is raising his half-brother.

Thanks for letting me know Barbara. I'll be looking forward to reading that one in June. :)

Oh, just thought of another one. Kate Steele's Hoosier Werewolves 3 book. The man guy in that one has 3 kids.

Let's try that again...

Anne and I have a single father in our Loose ID J-rock series. Jun Doi's kids aren't featured on screen in Jun' story Winter Song but they make an appearance in our June release and play a larger role in our Winter Song follow-up we're working on.

I think having kids in a gay romance is like having them in a typical m/f story, too much kid stuff runs the risk of taking away from the main h/h. But in our case Jun's lover has always been part of his kids' lives so it's quite natural to them that Daddy & Uncle Koji are together. The kids were both very young when Jun & his wife split so it didn't have a big impact on them. It might be something to explore as they grow older and perhaps question things.

Off the top of my head, the only author I can think of that has a gay parent are Josh Aterovis's novels. Bleeding Hearts was especially good.

I think the electronic market for gay romances is a little prohibitive of this type of storyline right now. I'm not saying that a great story doesn't exist out there somewhere, but I haven't found too many.

Thanks Vicki. I'll have to look up his books. *g*

Ruby Storm has a new one out, Perfecting Pearl. The child comes in late in the book and is only there as a baby before a big gap and she's grown. I enjoyed the story.

I'd forgotten about Perfecting Pearl, that was a nice ending to that story.

I've got the first draft of one of those sitting on my hard drive cooling off before I dig into the second draft. That probably doesn't count, though...

The nude cooking picture does kind of drive thoughts of kids out of my mind...

lol. I couldn't resist the picture though. I want a dishwasher like that. :)

My novella Taste This featured a character who was a single father, but his daughter was a teenager and seen briefly. The sequel will feature her more prominently.

I'm actually writing a novel now that features a young single father who meets Mr. Right! I'd noticed that it's something you don't see much, and there's nothing I love more than a hot dad. *g*
